Case StudiesRobert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation focuses on the pressing health and health care issues facing our country. In 2007, GPS was selected to manage and provide strategic direction for Leadership for Healthy Communities, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (www.leadershipforhealthycommunities.org). In this role, Dr. Rockeymoore directs a team of GPS staff who provide technical assistance to a national consortium of policymaker associations focused on educating policymakers about the importance of active living and healthy eating. The work of Leadership for Healthy Communities fits into the Foundation’s childhood obesity prevention portfolio of programs. Alliance for Excellent Education The Alliance for Excellent Education (Alliance) is an organization dedicated to ensuring that every child graduates from high school prepared to excel in the modern workforce. In 2005, the Alliance selected GPS to design and implement a civil rights outreach initiative that engaged communities of color in the high school reform debate. This GPS effort resulted in the creation of the Campaign for High School Equity (www.highschoolequity.org), a multi-racial and multi-ethnic civil rights coalition focused on preparing every student for graduation, college, work and life. This initiative has been funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Congressional Black Caucus Foundation The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) is a policy and leadership development organization that promotes collaboration among community, business, political, and labor leaders to effect sustainable change in the African American community and throughout the African Diaspora. In 2005 and again in 2007, CBCF selected GPS to provide program and policy support services. In this role, GPS produced a Social Security & African American policy video, fact sheets, a white paper on subprime mortgages, and helped to complete other CBCF grant and program requirements. Global Justice Global Justice (GJ) exists to mobilize and support a powerful movement of students and young people in the United States, in partnership with youth internationally, who are committed and able to promote solutions to the world’s most pressing and interconnected global and domestic social problems. Global Justice hired GPS to design and implement a Social Security education initiative focused on students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities. As a part of this effort, GPS produced educational materials, coordinated a “Social Justice Tour,” and conducted educational Social Security seminars for college students. As a result of this effort, more than 2,000 students and women across the country received training to help them become knowledgeable about Social Security and proposals for reform. National Council of Negro Women National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) is a council of national African-American women's organizations and community-based sections. Founded in 1935, the NCNW mission is to lead, develop, and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities. NCNW selected GPS to design, implement and evaluate a national train-the-trainer Social Security education initiative among its network of sections and affiliated women’s organizations. GPS wrote and designed attractive educational materials, conducted training sessions, and developed a comprehensive evaluation assessing the effectiveness of the intervention. As a result of this effort, NCNW was successful in training more than 850 African American women across the country. |
